Smokey gets rescued
Photos below

A special thank you to all my friends and the other people that supported “Smoky’s” rescue this weekend.

My Sunday horseback ride turned from a relaxing event into a full on rescue in the space of a couple of minutes. As Smoky and I were attempting to cross a ditch on a makeshift bridge, Smoky made a misstep and fell down into the narrow ditch. When he fell down he could not move his legs due to the mud and the narrowness of the ditch and was unable to standup. We struggled mightily but It quickly became evident that Smoky was unable to stand up and move from the ditch. Thanks to Stacy and Darrell Jett who showed up first with ropes, halter, shovels and bucket to keep Smoky calm and dry during the rescue. Thanks to DJ Gove who called in her San Diego Humane Society and SPCA Animal Rescue Reserve rescue team with all their equipment and expertise to affect the rescue. Thanks to Murphy who brought his tractor over to pull Smoky from the ditch. Thanks to my neighbors Roz and Jody who brought over a second tractor and their horse trailer to transport Smoky home. Special thanks to my friend and Vet Gary Amaral who medicated Smoky during and after the rescue and caused him to finally stand up after he had obviously given up and was in danger of dying. I feel truly blessed to have such a supportive group of friends and animal lovers and Smoky and I will never be able to pay you all back for your kindness this weekend. By the way Smoky is fine albeit a little sore after his ordeal.
