Officers

President
Andrea Goyette

  • Generally supervise, direct, and control the affairs of the Association, subject to Board direction.
  • Ensure that all Board responsibilities are being fulfilled - recruiting, training, and motivating as needed.
  • Lead Board meetings - preparing the agenda, sending notifications, and tracking assignments.
  • Assume primary responsibility for group culture and morale, including ground rules for working together, and systems for continuous improvement.
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • Make this role easy and enjoyable to do.

Immediate Past President

 

  • Serve as mentor to support current Board and President.
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.

Proposed By-Law clarification: The position of Immediate Past President is held for one year immediately following term of presidency.

Vice President

 

  • Assume responsibilities of the President in the President's absence.
  • Automatically become President if that office becomes vacant for any reason.
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • V.P. has the choice of fulfilling any Committee Leadership role.
    • This is a proposed change from 1993 By-Laws, which state "Vice President shall be Program Director."

Treasurer
Barbara Amalfitano
 

  • Maintain books, & provide financial reporting (semi-annual reports, and as requested)
  • Collect & distribute mail from PO Box
  • Collect & deposit all monies and dues in bank account specified by Board
  • Monitor member database for accuracy of who has paid
  • Approve & write checks (recurring & ad hoc. not to exceed $50 without majority Board approval)
    (Increase from $50 in current By-Laws)
  • Research some purchases (e.g. insurance)
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • Make this role easy and enjoyable to do.

Secretary
Sandy Shaffer

  • Write most newsletter content (mostly by taking good notes at the Board meeting)
  • Encourage others to contribute other newsletter content.
  • Lay out the newsletter (into our standard newsletter template format)
  • Distribute the newsletter by email
  • Work with Nancy Craig to print, fold, stamp, and deliver snail mail newsletters
  • Custodian of all property, documents, records, minutes, and correspondence
    except those maintained by Treasurer, Historian, or other Committee Leaders
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • Make this role easy and enjoyable to do.

Membership

Cindy Halterman

  • Maintain the member database (as primary author)
    • Distribute latest electronic version of member database to all Board members every month (just before newsletter mailing deadline)
  • Maintain Events Calendar
  • .Write some content for the newsletter.
  • Recruit, train, and lead Trails Reps for each equestrian barn, neighborhood, and trail user group.
  • Maintain frequent communication with all Trails Reps.
  • Assume primary responsibility for communication with members
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • Make this role easy and enjoyable to do.

Trail Care Leader

Mark Kukuchek

  • Lead the Trail Care program.
  • Send email notification for upcoming Trail Care events.
  • Recruit, train, and encourage Trail Care Volunteers.
  • Help continually improve the member database (submitting changes thru the primary author)
  • Train Trail Care Volunteers about Trail Care Tips.
  • Store and maintain trail maintenance equipment & supplies. Issue them to Trail Care Teams, and ensure that they are returned. 
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • Make this role easy and enjoyable to do.

Trails Advocate

 

  • Lead the Trails Advocacy program.
  • Maintain master Projects List
  • Recruit, coach, and lead Trails Advocates for projects involving landowners (e.g. obtaining easements, trail upgrades, etc.)
  • Support Trails Advocates to work with landowners and government agencies. 
  • Help others to understand and negotiate legalities, procedures & paperwork needed to grant IOD's and other forms of trail dedication.
  • Retain copies of all trail dedication paperwork, and identify paperwork that needs shoring up.
  • Keep the group apprised of trails issues and successes.
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • Make this role easy and enjoyable to do.

Sunshine

Bette Souza

  • Make personal phone calls and write personal notes to support members through troubled times, and to acknowledge and congratulate successes
  • Help continually improve the member database (submitting changes thru the primary author)
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • Make this role easy and enjoyable to do.

Historian

  • Take photos. Write date, event, and people's names on the back, and put photos in a photo album.
  • Maintain archives of newsletters, photographs, and other creative & fun ways to chronicle club history.
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • Make this role easy and enjoyable to do.

Webmaster
Doug Cruger

  • Design and maintain web site.
  • Maintain master copies of trails maps
  • Publish documents submitted by others (in PDF format please)
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
  • Make this role easy and enjoyable to do.

Program Director

Seeking '08 Candidate

  • Organize and implement training & educational programs. Possible topics:
    • Trail care (erosion control, nesting seasons, safe use of tools...)
    • Trail safety
    • Emergency response planning
    • Native species - recognition and protection
    • Invasive species - recognition and removal techniques
    • Equestrian trail clinics (how to overcome common "spooks", how to safely cross busy streets, trailer loading...)
  • Take the pulse of our membership - to learn what type of training has true interest.
  • Recruit & coach trainers to prepare and deliver training sessions.
  • Optionally serve as a trainer: preparing and delivering classes as the instructor/facilitator.

Emergency Response Team Leader

Seeking '08 Candidate

  • Organize and implement plans for responding to emergencies that threaten the safety of local horses. (e.g. fire, flood, earthquake...)
  • Work well with everyone that needs to be involved. (e.g. ranch owners & managers & trails reps, local fire & police, our webmaster, pre-defined volunteer roles...)

Grants Rainmaker

Seeking '08 Candidate

  • Identify opportunities to fund local trails projects
  • Submit grant requests
  • Coordinate multi-pronged petitioning of potential grant donors and influencers
  • Develop close working relationships with partners in government and tax-exempt organizations

Publicity

Andrea Goyette

  • Conceive & implement creative publicity ideas.
  • Publish press releases and articles for upcoming events and recent accomplishments.
  • Maintain list of publicity contacts, and their publication deadlines & preferred submission formats.
  • Help Event Leaders to create effective flyers.

Event Leaders

Every Event must have a designated Event Leader (or 2 co-leaders)

Event Leader

  • Lead all planning for the event
  • Serve as primary contact for the event
  • Ensure that the event makes money (or doesn't exceed cost approved by Board)
  • Publicize the event
  • Select and make arrangements with suppliers
  • Recruit, train, & mentor volunteers to perform all needed volunteer roles

Trails Reps

Trails Reps

  • All Trails Reps receive most Board correspondence - and are very much encouraged to participate in all Board events.
  • When attending a Board Meeting, each Trails Rep has Board voting privileges.

Mountain Bike Trails Rep

  • Serve as our primary liaison to mountain bike trail users.
  • Play a leadership role to lead events, projects, and member recruiting.
